Screenplays chart the journey of the story that will eventually be brought to life by actors or animations. What you see on the screen—the perfectly-timed gestures, the slightly crooked picture frame, the setting of a serious conversation—were all carefully-made decisions that existed first on the page, created by pen and paper. The glitz and glamour of the silver screen would not occur without the instruction manual that is the screenplay.

This March, dear writers, we invite you to try your hand at what may be an unfamiliar form: screenwriting! Whether your screenplay unfolds in a single room in a single day, or across a sprawling world over many weeks, focus on the choices your characters make and the tension those choices create. Remember, long before the theatre dims and the screen flickers to life, the story began with a writer and an idea.
