    • Junior division: Grades 4 to 6

    • Middle division: Grades 7 to 9

    • Senior division: Grades 10 to 12

    • Students compete individually

    • Participation is through schools/clubs or independently through a Future Problem Solving regional affiliate, with an adult coach/adult liaison

    How to enter

      Choose a Topic: Pick one of the annual season topics and develop a related story.

    2. 2

      Research the Real-World Issue: Research the chosen issue/topic to ensure the story relates to it.

    3. 3

      Create the Futuristic Narrative: Build a narrative that predicts a possible future 20–30 years from now, told as if the future is the present.

    4. 4

      Prepare the Performance: Practice an oral performance (up to five minutes). Video may be used for virtual competitions.

      Compete via Affiliate / Open Option: Compete through a regional affiliate; if none offers Storytelling, compete via the Open affiliate option.

      Receive Assessment & Feedback: Registered students receive authentic assessment and learner-focused feedback from trained evaluators.

    Submission requirements

    • Junior division: Grades 4 to 6

    • Middle division: Grades 7 to 9

    • Senior division: Grades 10 to 12

    • Students compete individually

    • Participation is through schools/clubs or independently through a Future Problem Solving regional affiliate, with an adult coach/adult liaison

    • Story must be original and fully student-created

    • Limit any use of automated writing tools (including AI) to sparking ideas

    • Performance is up to five minutes

    • Story is set 20–30 years in the future and told as if the future were the present

    • Singing, dance, or acting is not the focus of this competition
